Recently seen "Suicide Club" (a/k/a "Suicide Circle" a/k/a "Jisatsu Sakuru" a/k/a "Jisatsu Club") okay, watching it right now, and recording it from the dvd I rented to a blank vhs of mine. I posted my thoughts at HQ... so here's what I said..
Quote:Security Guard Jiro Suzuki: Hey, you won't believe the news. Nurse Yoko Kawaguchi: What? Security Guard Jiro Suzuki: 50 high school girls just threw themselves infront of a train. |

Kay, I finally rented it (after I dont know HOW long I've been meaning to). It's a gruesome film, (though I saw the version that doesnt have as much gore-- which is the only one they'll have at the video store, without so much, I mean.), and honestly, I loved it. I laughed in the beginning, and my fave. part was when they were on the roof (if they made an English version I'd want to audition for the "I'm dying now!" girl, aka 'school girl 6').
Quote:School Boy 1: Let's kill ourselves! School Girl 1: Yeah, I'm in! School Girl 2: Not me. School Girl 3: The Suicide Club! School Boy 1: Let's get enough people to beat 54! 100! Let's get 100! School Boy 2: We'll pass out flyers. 'Join our Suicide Club.' School Girl 4: 'Come die with us!' School Girl 5: 'Let's shed blood together!' School Girl 6: Come watch me kill myself! |
|
Anyway, behind all of the blood and gore, it can be a kind of.... not sweet, but, something like it, movie. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. And there *is* a meaning to the movie, besides the blood. It's basically that humans (in general) have lost the connection with themselves, and they usually only think of themselves... no one else. You have to feel pain to get over pain, and you must emphasize with others when they're in pain.
Quote:Kid on phone 1: What's your connection to you? [...] I understand our connection. I understand your connection to your wife. I understand your connection to your children. But as for your connection to yourself... If you die, will you lose the connection to yourself? Even if you die, your connection with your wife will remain. So will your connection with your children. But if you die, will you lose your connection with yourself? Will you love on? Are you connected to yourself? Kid on phone 2: Why couldn't you feel the pain of others as you would your own? Why couldn't you bear the pain of others as you would your own? You are the criminal. You could only think of yourself. You're scum. Scum! |
|
I've only seen it three times, so I dont think I've quite figured the whole thing out yet, (it takes a while to understand, because of the scene jumps, and the fact that they use metaphor... and you have to read subtitles, if you dont understand Japanese.)
The movie is really funny, imo. Not just the roof or the beginning. I thought Genesis was funny, (and hot.... reminded me of Johnny Depp),
Quote:Genesis: I'm Charles Manson of the information age!
Genesis: Hi there. My name's Genesis. I've had delusions of grandeur since I was a child. |
|
And the song "Mail Me" *WILL* get stuck in your head by the end of the movie. If not after the first time, then after the second time you see it. And I wish I could find the soundtrack, which is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find in the US (and I cant find it online either. If anyone does, can you tell me where/what the link is? Thanx.) So, I rate this movie a 9.5/10. It's not perfect, but close to it imo. The humour really helps it, and so does the music. "Desert" (also spelled "Dessart," and "Desart" in the movie) can really sing, and I'm hoping to find the soundtrack (on sale if possible) sometime soon.
Quote:Mail Me by: Dessart
Mail me. Hurry up and hit the "send key." Can't you see? I've waited patiently.
Mail me. To my phone or PC, I'm ready, To tell you I'm standing by.
Mail me. I want to let you know as friends go, Yours is the best hello.
Mail me. I'm sure you never knew, How I feel. About you, this is real. I need to hear from you Right now or I'll die.
|
|
So, yeah, thought I'd give me two cents on the movie... I reccomend it to anyone who can stand blood, suicide, and likes music and horror films... and doesn't mind reading subtitles...
Ending theme song...
Quote:Live As You Please by: Dessart
Little did we know, how little do we ever really know. Every day we're pressing the keys That executes a million commands.
If only you would say exactly What is on your mind, And tell me how you really feel. Maybe I can lend a helping hand.
Scary it's true But loads of fun too. To open up and feel the brand of life for each and every one.
Light yourself with life. Light yourself with love. Light yourself with memories.
All it takes is just a little Heart and courage on your part. Turn around yourself and take it. Once again right from the start.
Though you may feel Out of touch at times, Or fear an evil spell Has your life in hand.
If by some chance, you share The feelings that I have for you Come occupy the chasm of my heart. Together we can shed light on the dark.
Scary it's true But we'll be happy, too. Now do you really want To say goodbye And leave me high and dry?
Light yourself with life. Light yourself with love. Light yourself with memories.
As we go, we'll forget the pain We'll find life again. As we go, we'll forget the pain We'll find life again. |

I've heard of suicide club (from you), but never saw it, and still have no desire. Somethin about it jus' doesn't sit well with me...probably the same thing that made me shut Final Destination 2 off after only 15 minutes.

I saw FD2... the ending was hilarious... the kid was next to a grill and it blew up, and his arm landed on the picnic table and his mum screamed XP
But yeah, I really liked S.C. (I'm also the one who told April about it--- not a smart thing to do, but she's all right, and tha's all that matters.) I dunno, was funny. Only bad thing was the subtitles... but oh well. *shrugs, then blinks sleepily*

Never seen SC- but some of my new fav movies happen to be:
Memiors of A Geisha (I actually went to see it in the theaters, and loved it. It's alittle different from the book- which I read and adorded.)
Soylent Green( I got this 1970's classic in the mail on dvd and couldn't get enough. It's got a great plot and makes you think- unlike alot of the movies now.)
The Producers (I can't tell you how awesome this film is and how funny it is as well... go see it.)
Closer (This movie moved me beyond words. All four of the main characters acted beyond excellance, and portrayed the pure heartache relationships reallly have.)
Also movies I would like to go see: Munich Capote Syrina Match piont Brokeback Mountain (Yea I know it's about gay cowboys...But i want to see it anyway...) The wedding Crashers Casanova Tristan & Isolde
